Call off the search party. Let the bloodhounds go back to doing whatever bloodhounds do when they’re not sniffing around, trying to find missing persons.
The column has returned. Don’t ask where it’s been, but a short stint in rehab may or may not have been the reason behind its absence. Withhold judgment until after reading.
Reliable advice on the best comedy shows in Wisconsin the rest of this week is now available. You don’t have to sign up for my newsletter or pay for a subscription. The best part: It’s free.
So, let’s dig in. There are three delicious entrees on the menu.
Milwaukee Improv – Brookfield (https://improv.com/milwaukee/)
Duncan Trussell (May 9-11) – Joe Rogan once saw Trussell do a satanic puppet bit, and the rest is history. They used to be partners in a Sci-Fi Channel show called “Joe Rogan Questions Everything.” On his podcast “The Duncan Trussell Family Hour,” Trussell travels to some weird territory, touching on topics such as psychedelic adventures, spirituality, consciousness, and bizarre fringe theories, and during a memorable episode of Comedy Central’s “This is Not Happening,” Trussell talked of experiencing a wild acid trip. Expect hilarious absurdity and cheeky irreverence from Trussell. Find out more here: https://www.duncantrussell.com/
Skyline Comedy Club – Appleton (https://www.skylinecomedy.com/)
Bryan Callen (May 9-11) – “Man Class” is now in session. That’s the title of one of the MADtv alum’s specials, and he’s not playing around. The actor, comedian, and podcaster has appeared in “2 Broke Girls,” “Entourage,” and “Sex and the City,” in addition to playing Coach Mellor on ABC’s “The Goldbergs” and that show’s spinoff “Schooled.” Adept at sketch comedy, as well as stand-up, Callen is a master of improv and physical comedy, with a caustic sense of humor and a reputation for pulling no punches. So, man up and go see him. https://bryancallen.com/
The Pabst Theater – Milwaukee (https://www.pabsttheatergroup.com/)
Eddie Griffin (May 10) – “Undercover Brother” is back for another mission. The star of 2002’s righteously funny, satirical, blaxploitation spy comedy, the fast-talking Griffin is known for going a little blue onstage, tackling sex, drugs, and race, plus politics, religion, and everyday issues with a sly smile, smart writing, and a delicious nastiness. Not only was the charismatic Griffin in the “Deuce Bigalow” movies, but he also starred in the popular late-90s sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie.” If you have the money, go to Las Vegas and catch his “Live & Unleashed” residency. Or don’t and avoid the flight. See him here. It’s cheaper. Get all your Eddie Griffin info here: https://eddiegriffin.com/
