Triple play: Best in Wisconsin standup comedy this week (May 27-June 2)

By Peter Lindblad

The end is nigh … not for all of existence, though.

If the prophecy has foretold the coming of the rapture, or warned sinners to repent, nobody bothered to inform Out & About Wisconsin. Although all the damaging storms lately does give one pause to consider the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the apocalypse is upon us.

Before going out to hoard canned food or crank up the generator to ride out Armageddon in survivalist style, this is simply a reminder that May is almost over. And there’s still time to get all the laughs needed to get through this turbulence we’re all experiencing. The warning sirens are going off.

The Pabst Theater – Milwaukee (https://www.pabsttheatergroup.com/)

Brad Williams (May 31) – Under the sea lives a famous starfish named Patrick – from “Sponge Bob Square Pants,” of course. Above ground, the hottest “Starfish” around is high-energy comic Brad Williams, who’s coming to the “good land” for two shows. That’s the name of Williams’ latest special, a laugh riot currently streaming on the platform VEEPS. A firehose blast of smart, fast-talking funny stuff, stomping all over topics ranging from pop culture and current events to sex and commonplace issues, Williams is stop, dropping and rolling, but the blaze that is his 2024 tour isn’t going out anytime soon. It’s going to rage through the rest of the year. He’s won over the masses with other hilarious specials like “Fun Size” and “Daddy Issues.” Size doesn’t matter to him. It shouldn’t matter to you. https://www.bradwilliamscomedy.com/

Skyline Comedy Club – Appleton (https://www.skylinecomedy.com/)

William Montgomery (May 30-June 1) – Painting outside the lines with a twisted, sometimes surreal outlook on everything and a ninja-like background in improv, Montgomery regularly lights up the popular live podcast “Kill Tony” like a bearded disco ball. Uniquely funny, he’s lived all over the place, including Austin, L.A., New York and Memphis, and Denver, where he killed at the Comedy Works club. He’s opened for stars like Joe Rogan and Tony Hinchcliffe, who seem to dig his stuff. Go down the Montgomery rabbit hole here: https://williamfmontgomery.com/

Milwaukee Improv – Brookfield (https://improv.com/milwaukee/)

Chris Porter (May 30-June 1) – He’s been compared to George Carlin. He’s gone on wild benders with Major League baseball players and lived to tell the stories, and his rants are legendary. Kansas City’s Porter is a wild man, in the best way possible, and for some reason, he only placed third on season 4 of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” We demand a recount! “Ugly & Angry” was one of Netflix’s top-rated specials for three years running. There’s nothing fancy about Porter, just comic fastball after fastball coming right at you. https://www.chrisportercomedy.com/
