The 45th Annual Spring Jefferson Swap Meet and Car Show in Jefferson, Wis., takes place April 22-24 at the Jefferson Fairgrounds in Jefferson, Wis. This is the event that kicks off the outdoor car show season in the Wisconsin-Illinois-Iowa-Minnesota-Indiana region and (hopefully) welcomes warm weather to the Badger State. Car collectors gobble up Jefferson’s trademark “Big Bar” ice cream treats on warm days.
Jefferson features over 3,100 swap meet spaces, about 1,100 show cars and more than 20,000 spectators. Hundreds of cars and trucks will be offered for sale in the Car Corral. The spotlight for the Spring 2022 show is on muscle cars and that means there will be plenty of such vehicles packed into the show grounds.
In the car show area, the eye catchers will be Chevelles, Plymouths, Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, GTOs, Dodges, Mercurys, Oldsmobiles, Buicks and even hot Studebakers. The indoor “feature car” display will feature top muscle cars with huge hood scoops, fat raised-white-letter tires, bucket seats, rear deck spoilers and Hurst shifters.
Bargains will be found in the giant flea market, which the rules say will feature 80 percent automotive items. Car books and shop manuals will be for sale. Jefferson is also heavy on Chevy parts (especially 1955-1957 hardtops or coupes set up for drag racing).
The swap meet is big, big, big and includes both outdoor spots and indoor spaces in numerous fairgrounds buildings. The show has a nice blend of treasures found by hobbyists cleaning out their garages and reproduction parts from professional vendors like CARs, Clamp-Tite, Browns of Two Rivers, Custom Plating Services and Redi-Rad.
For many in the Midwest, Spring Jefferson signals the beginning of the car show season, but organizer Madison Classics will already be registering vendors for the 45th annual Fall Jefferson show, Sept 23-25, 2022. The fall show is typically the biggest because it attracts vendors and travelers on their way to the Carlisle, Pa. flea market the following week. This year four-wheel-drive vehicles will be featured in the fall.
