Wisconsin Kitty Cat Races put kids in driver’s seat

By John Gunnell

The Wisconsin Kitty Cat Racers, Inc. is a non-profit organization that sets up and promotes snowmobile races for kids aged 4 to 15. The young speed aces race Kitty Cat sleds in several classes: KC Vintage, KC Amateur, KC Stock, KC Super Stock and KC Improved.

Also raced are 120 sleds from the three major brands.  Classes include: 120 Amateur, 120 Stock, 120 Super Stock, 120 Improved, 120 Lemans, Modified KC and 120 Sleds (F-3, F-1, 120 Sprint and 120 Champ), plus Junior Stock Arctic Cat and Open class for 340cc style sleds. There are two classes of racing featuring a stock 120 sled with a Briggs & Stratton LO 206 Engine. Overall, WKCR features 20 classes of racing.

The Kitt Cat racing program gets children, parents and grandparents involved. The group’s motto is “Family Fun for Everyone!”

WKCR is an all-volunteer group that sets and runs the races each Saturday in January and February. After a hard day of racing, trophies are awarded to all participants and first through sixth in each class.

Each year, WKCR organizes an Annual WKCR STATE race where competitors from all over the State of Wisconsin come together to race. The competition is tough and the trophies are titanic! WKCR caps off the year with an end-of-season banquet where seasonal achievement awards are presented.

“Come watch us! Check it out!” says the WKCR Website. “Talk to a WKCR Board member and we are likely to have a sled your youngster can try! With WKCR it’s always a great day to race.” For information call WKCR president Mike Schmuhl at 1-262-707-5041 or visit www.wkcr.net.
